Department of Russian (Updated 18th May, 2015)
Introduction
Russian has been taught in the University of Mumbai (previously University of Bombay) since 1964 as one of the Foreign languages. As an important language of science, research, diplomacy and trade, Russian has enjoyed considerable popularity with different sections of the public in Mumbai.
Till 1993 Russian was one of the languages taught in the University Department of Foreign Languages. In 1993 the Department of Foreign languages was divided into four independent departments: the Department of Arabic, the Department of French, the Department of German / Russian, the Department of Persian. From 1993 till September-2003 Russian was one of the languages taught in the Department of German/Russian.
Russian is a separate Department in the University of Mumbai with effect from mid 2003-2004.
Location
The Department of Russian Office is located in Room No 19, Ground floor, Ranade Bhavan, Kalina (Vidyanagari) Campus of the University of Mumbai.
The Kalina (Vidyanagari) Campus is off the C.S.T. Road (now known as Vidyanagari Marg) in Kalina and is accessible both from Central Railway and Western Railway. BEST bus route 318, 313, and 37 plying between Kurla (West) (Central Railway) and 318, 313 and 306 Santacruz (East) (Western Railway) pass via Vidyanagari Marg.
