Details of the courses offered
at the University Department of Russian
1.
Certificate in
Russian:
The
Certificate course in Russian introduces students to four
important facets of language learning- comprehension,
speech, reading & writing. It covers the basic grammar
essential for the learners to understand and to express
their ideas in Russian.
Eligibility:
The minimum qualification for being eligible for admission
to the
Certificate Course is S.S.C. (10th Standard).
Duration - One academic year
(July-April)
Contact Hours. 120 hrs.
Timings - Twice a week (Mornings /
Evenings) and / or
Sunday Batch (9.00 a.m. to 1.00 p.m.)
Fee - Registration Fee Rs.40/- and
Course Fee Rs.960/- per annum.
Annual Examination is
held at the end of the academic year (March / April).
Annual Examination for the
Certificate Course in Russian will consist of one
Written paper of three hours carrying 100 marks and a
Viva-Voce Exam carrying 50 marks.
The Viva-Voce Exam for Certificate
includes reading test, comprehension and ability to converse
on topics pertaining to self and family, interests and
hobbies. .
2.
Diploma in Russian
The Diploma course is meant to further
develop the reading, writing and speaking abilities of the
students. The students are guided towards self expression on
varied subjects. Active classroom participation of the
students in carrying out conversation and in composition in
Russian develops their skills in spoken & written
expression. Diploma in Russian also introduces the students
to Translation, both from Russian–English and from English
-Russian. The students get classroom practice of translation
of texts (from Russian to English) pertaining to
Socio-political and economic developments, Scientific
achievements of Russia and the world. The translation from
English into Russian is based on constructions, which are
special to Russian.
Eligibility:
The minimum qualification for being
eligible for admission to the Certificate Course is S.S.C.
(10th Standard) and Successful Completion of the
Certificate course examination in Russian held by this
University/Institution or by any other recognized
University/Institution/Entrance Exam conducted by the
Department of Russian for Diploma.

Advanced
Diploma in Russian:
This course introduces the students to
the finer points of grammar. It also further develops their
spoken and written expression in Russian Language. The
students are introduced to more practice of translation of
scientific and technical material, newspaper reports,
popular science texts etc. This course lays particular
emphasis on translation with a view to develop practical
professional skills. The Advanced Diploma Course also
introduces the students to Russian literature through
analysis and comprehension based on stories and poetry from
Russian Literature.
Eligibility:
A candidate for being eligible for
admission to the Advanced Diploma Course must have passed
the Diploma Course examination in Russian conducted by this
University or any other University/Institution recognised by
this University.
Duration - One academic year.
(July-April)
Timings . Week-end batch/ Weekday batch
Fees - Registration Fee Rs.40/ and
Course Fee Rs.1460/- per annum.
Annual Examination will
be held at the end of the academic year (March / April).

Standard for Passing the Examination
for the Certificate in Russian, Diploma in Russian &
Advanced Diploma in Russian : 50 per cent of the full
marks in each written paper and viva-voce examination
separately.
Lectures
for the Certificate, Diploma and Advanced Diploma in Russian
are scheduled to begin on 19th July, 2015.
However, please see the Department’s Notice Board for any
changes in the schedule and for exact venue of the Lectures
on Kalina campus.
4.
Short-Term Intensive Course in Basic Russian
This is a 120 hrs intensive Course to
be completed within three months. Classes for the same will
be usually held every alternate day in four-hourly sessions.
The final exam consists of one written paper of 100 marks
and a viva-voce exam of 50 marks.
The Short-Term Intensive Course in
Basic Russian may be conducted more than once a year subject
to sufficient demand for the same and staff availability.
Students interested in the Short-Term Course are request to
contact the Department at any time of the year.

A candidate for
being eligible for admission to the examination shall
satisfy the following requirements, pertaining to
attendance:
(1) Under ordinance
119 the following shall be the minimum attendance necessary
for keeping terms:-
Faculty of Arts – First
and Second Term. Three Fourth of the days on which lectures
are delivered.
(2) He / She shall
produce a certificate from the Head of the Department that
his / her progress is satisfactory, that his / her conduct
is good and that he / she has permission of the Head of the
Department to appear for the examination.

M.Phil. Degree in Russian NET in Russian/ PET in Russian

Information requirement for
admission to various courses: The minimum qualification for
the first level course among the part-time courses
(Certificate) is X Standard Pass. Subsequent courses
(Diploma, Advanced Diploma) require both X Standard Pass &
Pass in the preceding level of Course. This qualification
should also be supported by adequate corresponding knowledge
of the language: in some cases an admission test may be
deemed necessary.
Candidates who are not
graduates of the University of Mumbai or those who have not
passed the S.S.C./H.S.C. of the Pune Board or any other
statutory examining body must apply for an eligibility
certificate from the Eligibility section, University of
Mumbai, Gr.Floor, Ranade Bhavan, Vidyanagari, Kalina, Mumbai
- 400 098. The procedure of Application for Eligibility
Certificate will be explained at the time of admission.
