ANNUAL REPORT (2006- 2007)

Three Day National Seminar On " Amir Kusrau, A Legendary Persian Poet of India " 26th, 27th & 28th August 2006.

The Department of Persian, University of Mumbai, had organized a 3 day National Seminar on "Amir Khusrau - A Legendary Persian Poet of India" on 26 - 28 August, 2006 at the Seminar Hall, Ground Floor, New Physics Workshop, Department of Physics, University of Mumbai, Tilak Bhavan, Vidyanagari, Kalina Campus, Mumbai - 400 098.

As a part of the Sesqui Centennial Celebrations of the University of Mumbai, the Department of Persian, organized a 3 day National Seminar on "Amir Khusrau - a Legendary Persian Poet of India" on 26th, 27th and 28th August, 2006 with a view to highlight the immense contribution of Amir Khusrau towards the life and letters, as well as, the cosmopolitan culture of our country.

H.E. Mr. Kashani Nizad 1st Consul General, Consulate of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Mumbai presided over the Inaugural Function of the 3 day National Seminar on 26th August, 2006.

Mr. Mohammad Reza Mirzai, Hon'ble Director, Iran Culture House, Mumbai and Mr. Mohd. Hossein Mozaffari, Hon'ble Director, Iran Culture House, Delhi graced the occasion as Special Guest at the Inaugural Function.

Mr. Yasin Momin, Advocate High Court, Mumbai, and Mr. Munawar Peerbhoy, Chairman Haji Ghulam Mohd., Azam Education Trust, Pune graced the occasion as the Guests of Honour at the Inaugural Function of the Seminar.

Ketnote address was delivered by Dr. Abdul Wadud Azhar, Professor of Persian, Institute of Afro-Asian Languages of Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi and General Secretary of All India Pesian Teachers' Association, Delhi.

Mr. Munawwar Peerbhoy, Hon'ble Chairman, Haji Ghulam Mohd., Azam Education Trust, Pune presided over the Valedictory Function of the Seminar. Mr. Sami Khatib, Hon'ble President, Anjuman-i-Islam, Mumbai, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. We had in our midst Mr. Mohammad Reza Mirzai, Hon'ble Director, Iran Culture House, Mumbai, and Mr. Saleh Mohammad Khan, Hon. Secretary, Unani Medical College and Hospital, Pune as Guests of Honour.

The eminent and distinguished scholars from Jawaharlal Nehru University - Delhi, Delhi University, Osamina University - Hyderabad, Shantiniketan- West Bengal, Gujarat University, Patna University, Kolkata University, Aligrah Muslim University and Mumbai University presented their valuable research papers delineating various aspects of multifaceted and multifarious personality of Amir Khusrau - A Legendary Persian Poet in India.

It was an honour for the Department to receive four research papers on Amir Khusrau from the learned scholars of Tehran University, Iran and Danishgah-i-Orimieh, Iran. All the distinguished Guests, luminaries and learned scholars by their august presence had imparted light and luster to the 3 day proceedings of the National Seminar on 'Amir Khusrau". A Legendary Persian Poet of India.
