UNIVERSITY OF MUMBAI’S DELEGATION TO
UNIVERSITIES IN CHINA.

4th  NOVEMBER TO 10TH NOVEMBER,2011

1.     Objective of the Visit

      The objectives of the visit were :

  •             To explore the possibilities of Internationalization of Higher Education through academic co-operation between some of the leading universities in China and the University of Mumbai.

  •     To identify mutually beneficial exchange programs such as faculty exchange, student exchange, research collaborations etc.

  •      To sign MOUs with Universities in China for academic collaboration.

 

2.     Background to the Visit

A delegation from China led by the Honorable Mayor of People’s Government, Tianjin City Mr. Huang Xingguo, visited the University of Mumbai in August 2011. During the interaction with Honorable Vice Chancellor Dr. Rajan Welukar at that time, the Mayor expressed his desire that a delegation from University of Mumbai should visit Tianjin to explore the possibilities of academic collaboration with  Universities in China and extended an invitation to that effect.

In response to this invitation, Honorable Vice Chancellor Dr.Rajan Welukar  formed a team comprising of Director, Board of Colleges and University Development , Directors of Management Institutes, Principals of Engineering Colleges, Principals of  Arts, Science and Commerce Colleges and  academicians .

Our Learning and Takeaways

 

·        Increase the number of foreign students in University of Mumbai through student exchange programs

·         Twinning programs with credit transfer mechanism

·         Establishment of  Confucius Chair/Institute at the University of Mumbai

·         Availing the services of Chinese coaches for Sports and Gymnastic

As a result of the active discussion it was understood that there is a great potential in the following  universities in Tianjin for academic cooperation for mutual benefit :

  1. Nankai University

       2. Tianjin University

       3. Tianjin Normal University

       4. Tianjin University of Technology. .

  • These Universities are amongst first Top Universities in China.

 

ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

We Appreciate the great vision of Honourable Vice Chancellor Dr.Rajan Welukar  for Internationalization of Higher Education .We all the members of delegation to leading Universities in China acknowledge with deep sense of gratitude for giving us the opportunity to be a part of this International delegation .

We whole heartedly put on the record that the success of this visit is mainly due to Honourable Vice Chancellor Dr.Rajan Welukar for his planning and execution.
