A delegation of
Canadian Universities led by Mr. Mike de Jong,
Health Minister, British Columbia, Canada, visited
the Indo-Canadian Studies Centre (ICSC) at the
Mumbai University, on Monday 14th
November 2011 between 9:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. The
ICSC, funded by the British Columbia Province
Government, had organized a small educational
seminar on this occasion.
Mr. Mike de Jong was
happy with the Centre’s progress under the guidance
of its Honorary Coordinator, Professor Nilufer E.
Bharucha. The minister very spontaneously made a
further grant offer of Canadian Dollars 50,000 to
the ICSC. In response, Principal Dr. Hande,
Director, Board of College and University
Development, University of Mumbai, vouched
whole-hearted support and better infrastructure to
the Centre. Dr. Rajan Welukar, Vice Chancellor,
University of Mumbai, also made a brief appearance
despite his hectic schedule and spoke to all the
delegates.
The academic
delegation comprising academicians from Canada met
select faculty members, Deans and students of the
Mumbai University and discussed possible
collaborations/faculty and student exchange in
mutually beneficial areas such as Indian Diaspora
Studies, Computer Science and Business Management
degree courses. Fellowships at Indo-Canadian Studies
Centres at the University of Mumbai and the
University of the Fraser Valley were also discussed.
Academicians from India and Canada also mentioned
being open to discussing joint research guidance and
joint degrees in target areas.
