Two-day User
Awareness Programme on Access to E-Resources under UGC-INFONET
Consortium, University of Mumbai, Mumbai, on 22nd and

University Library and Department of Library & Information
Science, University of Mumbai, organized two-day "User Awareness Programme on Access to E-Resources under UGC INFONET Digital
Library Consortium" on 22nd & 23rd
September, 2009 at the Professor D.N. Marshall Auditorium,
Jawaharlal Nehru Library, Vidyanagari Campus, University of
Mumbai, Mumbai, 400 098.

Dr.
Vijay Khole, Hon'ble Vice-Chancellor inaugurated the programme
by l.ighting the traditional lamp. Dr. Khole in his inaugural
address appreciated the efforts of INFLIBNET to sponsor this
needd-based programme, which made the faculty, research scholars
& students of the University aware of several e-resources from
different publishers on a single platform. Dr. Arun D. Sawant,
Hon'ble Pro-Vice-Chancellor appreciated the saving of University
funds due to the facility of access to e-resources extended by
INFLIBNET free of charge. Dr. V.N. Magare, Director, BCUD
expressed the feeling that this facility has enhanced the inner
strength of the Library as a learning resource centre in the
University environment. The retiring team of authorities ie.
The Hon'ble Vice-Chancellor, Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Director,
BCUD, was felicitated on behalf of the University Library and
Department of Library & Information Science on this occasion.
Prof. Vijaya Rajhansa and Head, Department of Library &
Information Science introduced the chief features and mutual
benefits of the UGC-INFONET Digital Library Consortium for the
academicians.

The
first technical session started with a presentation on the topic
'Exploring e-resources: the Role of Aggregators' by Dr. P.A. Gokhale, Reader, Department of Library & Information Science.
In the
subsequent session Mr. Yatrik Patel, Scientist 'C', INFLIBNET,
further explained the consortium incept dwelling upon the need
to enhance the usage of e-resources by the academic community,
which can boost their research activities. Later during the
day, four publishers associated with the consortium made
presentations on their e-resources available to the University.
They were Academic Press (ISI and Web of Science). Blackwell
and Wiley (GIST, Taylor and Francis), Book Marketing Services (IOP,
RSC).
Next
day on 23rd September, 2009, the following four
publishers gave their product presentations. The first was
Cambridge University Press followed by Globe (AIP, APS, Math Sci
Net), Balani Infotech & I Group Infotech India (ACS, SIAM,
Project Muse), Elsevier (Science Direct) and Springer Links.
The
concluding session of the programme was chaired by Dr. (Mrs.)
Savitsmita B. Chawan, Reader, Department of Geography in the
University. The programme was attended by 150 participants, who
were given attendance certificates at her hands.
The
programme ended with a vote of thanks proposed by Prof. (Mrs.)
Vijaya Rajhansa, Programme Coordinator, who profusely thanked
INFLIBNET for sponsoring the conduct of the programme and also
expressed the wish that the programme would fruitfully result
into enhanced usage of the e-resources by the academic
community.
