GROUP FOR RESEARCH ON INDIAN DIASPORA
UNIVERSITY OF MUMBAI

Under the 'University with Potential for Excellence' scheme of the University Grants Commission, Delhi

The GRID (Group for Research on Indian Diaspora) Programme aims to make an enduring contribution to the field of Indian Diaspora Studies. GRID has begun working at an opportune moment when globalisation processes have accentuated the growth of diasporas. The Indian Diaspora has gained unprecedented visibility and significance - political, economic and socio cultural - today. Diaspora Studies is emerging as a serious field of knowledge.

GRID is undertaking a major research project through creating and harnessing synergy among the faculty of six departments of literatures, social sciences and humanities of the Mumbai University. The research project is titled 'Indian Diasporas in the era of Globalization: Multiple Locations, Plural Identities and Privileged Exchange'. Other allied activities of GRID include publications, courses, PhD students, library and documentation, advocacy, policy inputs and academic networking.
