Courses

 

Today following courses are conducted in the Department.

·        One year Pre Diploma Foundation Course in Hindustani Classical Vocal Music

·        A Two Year Diploma Course In Hindustani  Classical Vocal / Light Vocal /

            Sitar / Tabla

·        A Three Year Degree Course – B.Mus. In Hindustani Classical Vocal / Sitar / Tabla

·        A Two Year Post Graduation Course – M. Mus. In  Hindustani Classical Vocal

·        Ph. D. programme in Music

·        Six Months certificate course in - Sound Recording and Reproduction Course (SRR)

·        Four months certificate course in - Music Composition & Direction (MCD)

 

a) Admission :-

 

     Admission is offered to eligible fresh students at the first year level of the respective  courses viz. Diploma, Degree & Post graduate.  The process of admission of the said courses starts from 1st June.  The audition tests are held thereafter & Final admissions are notified towards the end of June.  Admission forms can be obtained from the office of the Department from 1st May on payment of prescribed form fees in cash.

  For Diploma :- S.S.C. Mark-list & Passing certificate.

  For B. Mus. :-   H.S.C. Mark-list & Passing certificate.

                          Madhyama Purna Marklist & Passing Certificate.

  For M. Mus. :-   Degree Mark-list & Passing certificate.

                           Visharad Mark-list & Passing certificate.

  For Studio Singing Technique Course :- H.S.C. Mark-list & Passing certificate.

  For Sound Recording Course :- H.S.C. Mark-list & Passing certificate.

  For M.C.D. :-  H.S.C. Mark-list and Passing Certificate

Scholarships :- Annually 4 talented students of the department are awarded 'Pandit Bhimsen Joshi' scholarship, which is sponsored by Vile Parle Music Circle.
Pt. Ram Marathe Scholarship is awarded to the student who secures first rank at Diploma Classical Vocal examination.
Besides the students of Backward Class & Economically Backward Class can avail scholarship from the University.

  

3)  Eligibility & Papers for various courses

 1)      Pre – Diploma Foundation Course

  Eligibility :- 

A candidate for being eligible for admission to the Diploma in Music, must have passed the S.S.C. (Std. X) examination conducted by the Maharashtra State board of Secondary education or an examination of another University or body recognised as equivalent thereto.  The candidates admission to the course will be subject to his passing an audition test conducted by the Head of the Institute.

  Papers :-  Paper I – Oral – Viva Voice – 45 Minutes – 50 Marks

  2)     Diploma in Music (Hindustani Classical Vocal /Sitar /Tabla)

  Eligibility :- 

A candidate for being eligible for admission to the Diploma in Music, must have passed the S.S.C. (Std. X) examination conducted by the Maharashtra State board of Secondary education or an examination of another University or body recognised as equivalent thereto.  The candidates admission to the course will be subject to his passing an audition test conducted by the Head of the Institute.

3)        Hindustani Instrumental Classical – Tabla

4)        Hindustani Vocal Light

Theory :-

Paper I :-     Musicology – One Paper – Two sections – 3 hours – 100 Marks (70 + 30)

Paper II :- History of Hindustani Music – One Paper – Two Sections – 3 hours –

                  100 Marks (60 + 40)

Paper III :-  Practice & Performance Studies – One Paper - 3 hours – 100 Marks

Practical :-

Paper IV :-  Practical – Oral – Viva Voice – 150 Marks – 45 Minutes.

Paper V :-    Practical – Concert Performances – 50 Marks – 15 minutes.

  3)     B. Mus. in Music (Hindustani Classical Vocal / Sitar / Tabla)

v     F.Y.B.Mus.in Hindustani Classical Vocal Music/ Hindustani Classical Instrumental Music – Non – percussion / Hindustani Classical Instrumental Music - Percussion

   (c) Diploma Of Classical Music from Mumbai University followed by Audition test

(Only if student has scored 70% or more at Diploma examination need not appear for audition test.)

b) 2 Practical Papers – 250 -marks

            i)  Practical Paper I – Viva Voice – 150 marks

            ii) Practical Paper II – Concert – 100 marks

c) Internal Assessment – 50 marks.

            i) One concert performance at the end of First Term – 25 marks

            ii) One Viva Voice in the second term      –  25 marks

i) Theory paper  Theory Paper IV – Interdisciplinary Studies with reference to Music -100 marks

ii) Theory Paper V –Music Education - 50 marks

iii) Theory Paper VI – Research Methodology -50 marks

b) 3 Practical Papers – 300 –marks

vi)                 Practical Paper IV – Viva Voice (1) – 100 marks

vii)               Practical Paper V – Viva Voice (2) – 100 marks

viii)              Practical Paper VI – Concert – 100 marks

c) Internal Assessment – 50 marks.

            i) One concert performance at the end of First Term – 25 marks

            ii) One Viva Voice in the second term      –  25 marks 

Total a) + b) + c) = 200 + 300 + 50 = 550

Fees :-  Tuition fees & library fees are charged per term twice in academic year.  Other fees viz. Music circle fees is payable once in the beginning of academic year.

            Caution money & library deposit are payable in full after accepting admission.  They are refundable after the students leave the department.  Caution money & library deposit should be claimed within one year from leaving the department.  The receipts of said fees must be preserved and produced while claiming the refund.

e) Examinations :-  All annual examination except  Diploma and Pre Diploma are conducted in the department by the University of Mumbai soon after 15th March.  Practical examination continue up to end of March after which theory examinations start by first week of April & are over by middle of April.  Results are generally declared by end of May.
